Early Florida Homesteaders

In 1821, Florida was transferred from Spain to the United States as a result of
Adams-Onis treaty. Florida became a US Territory, with Andrew Jackson as its
first Governor.

In 1823, Tallahassee was established as Florida's Capital.

 In 1824, Tallahassee was also established as the Starting point of all surveying
of Florida lands.

 Florida's population in 1830 was 18,395 white and 16,335 nonwhite. In 1845, Florida
became the 27th State of the United States.

As Early as March 3rd, 1826, While Florida was only a US Territory, The first
Florida Homestead was granted.

 

Tallahassee is in Leon County, Florida,  where the majority of early Homesteads
were granted before statehood in 1845.
